La Fonda sits at around kilometer 58 on the toll road near La Misión, below the hotel and restaurant of the same name on the cliff. It is a beach break with a left off the point at the north end, and it is one of the most popular stops for San Diego day-trippers. It picks up a wide range of swell directions and gets heavy when the swell is big. Water quality is usually fair but drops after rain.
Halfway House takes its name from the old roadside stop roughly midway between Tijuana and Ensenada. It is a mix of rocky reef and sand, with lefts and rights across several peaks. It is a good intermediate wave, but the rocks keep it from being a beginner spot.
Punta Piedra, also called Rocky Point, is a reef in the La Misión area that does not break often. It needs a solid northwest swell to come alive, and when it does it is a wave for experienced surfers.
La Misión is the small town where the Guadalupe river meets the coast, just south of La Fonda. The beach and reef here are usually quiet, and it works best on winter northwest swell. Currents near the river mouth can be strong.
Dunes is an open beach break in the La Misión area, backed by sand dunes. It takes southwest and west swell and can produce punchy peaks when the sandbars are in good shape. With no reef or point to hold the sand in place, the banks move around, and rips are the main hazard.
