Longboard-friendly breaks in Luquillo

Break types, wave character, and ideal conditions for mellow log sessions.

La Pared
beach
beginner

La Pared is Luquillo's accessible town beachbreak and the best current Quiver fit for northeast Puerto Rico learner intent. Surf schools and rentals operate nearby, and small northeast to east swells create approachable peaks for beginners and longboards. The same beach can also develop strong rip currents and punchier surf, so beginner suitability depends on size, flags, and local instruction.

Wave character

Use the mellow sandbar peaks for learners and longboards. If the trade winds are strong, flags are up, or channels are pulling hard, this becomes an intermediate current-management session.

Best conditions

Small northeast to east swell, light west to southwest wind, and manageable rip-current conditions; mornings before trade wind texture are usually the cleanest.

La Selva
point
upper-intermediate

La Selva is a secluded surf zone within the Northeast Ecological Corridor near Luquillo. A NE swell wraps into the headland, producing a right‑hand point wave with adjacent beach‑break peaks. Intermediate and advanced surfers enjoy 4–8 ft waves in an unspoiled setting backed by palms and El Yunque rainforest. Access requires a hike or 4×4 and the area is protected as a sea‑turtle reserve.

Wave character

The main point wave hugs the headland, offering long rights on NE swells. There are also shorter peaks down the beach. Best surf is in winter and during hurricane swells.

Best conditions

Mid tide, W winds, and NE swells 4–8 ft.
