The Samoa Dunes surf area is the exposed beach immediately north of Humboldt Bay's North Jetty. The jetty-influenced sandbar can organize powerful surf, but the active harbor entrance, currents, and large-wave exposure make this an advanced location.
The peak can be consequential and localized. Do not crowd the jetty corner or enter without advanced cold-water and current experience.
Use legal BLM recreation-area parking and follow posted vehicle and dune rules. Check tide, weather, and marine warnings before leaving the lot.
Access the beach from the recreation area. Stay off the North Jetty: BLM states that it is unsafe for recreation and does not manage the structure.
