West to west-southwest swells in the 3-5 foot range with light offshore winds from the east or northeast. Mid-tide on the incoming produces the cleanest walls—too low exposes the reef, too high drowns the peaks. Fall Santa Ana events create the best combination of swell and offshore wind.
